Morgan Bolmer and Pollyanna Bass ring up wins at the Saint John Road Race

On Saturday morning, 2 November 2019, Morgan Bolmer will be racing on the hills of Carrollton, Georgia in the GHSA State Championship Race for High School Boys' Cross-Country. But on Saturday morning, 26 October 2019, the Berrien County High senior was on the streets of Valdosta, Georgia, where he won the sixteenth annual Saint John Catholic School 5K Road Race in 17:36. Pavo, Georgia master runner Pollyanna Bass was the first woman in the race, placing twelfth overall in 22:56.


It wasn't the first race of the week for Bolmer. The preceding Wednesday, 23 October 2019, he had won the GHSA 2A Region 1 Boys' Cross-Country Championship Race at Pebble Hill near Thomasville, Georgia, running 17:42 and leading his Berrien County team to a Region title. That win earned the Berrien boys a trip to the State Meet in Carrollton.


Caleb Watson of Valdosta finished runner-up to Bolmer at the Saint John 5K, running 18:14 coming in just ahead of Justin Tracy, the winner of the 2017 race. Tracy was third in 18:20. The fastest master runner in the race was Ryan Kelly, the Valdosta High cross-country coach. Kelly placed fourth overall in 18:40.


Pinetta, Florida master runner Tracey Cole took second in the women's standings, placing thirteenth overall in 23:10. Traci Ferris of Valdosta was the third woman in the Saint John 5K and sixteenth overall in 23:18.


108 athletes finished the 2019 Saint John Road Race 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the race and provided finish line services.
