Four weeks after he won the Run For The Cookies 5K, the 15:40 that Remy Tamer posted at that race is still on the top of the men's list. Chris Lake is still the #3 performer, but added the fifth-best performance of the year with a 16:30 at the Shamrock Scurry 5K. The runner-up in that race debuts at #4 on the list of performers--University of West Florida's New Zealand distance runner, Nick Merrett. Maclay coach Gary Droze went 17:44 to place fifth at the Shamrock Scurry, which didn't improve his standing on the list, but he is still the top master runner on this year's list with the #12 17:28 that he recorded at the Run For The Cookies 5K. Like Lake and Droze, Nate Kaiser and Vince Molosky didn't improve their standing on the list, but still had top 25 performance. Kaiser equalled his best time of the year with another 16:54, and Molosky ran 17:39, the 17th best 5K in town so far this year.
Like Remy Tamer, on the women's side Sheryl Rosen's Run For The Cookies 5K mark of 18:04 still has her at the #1 spot. Stephanie Liles-Weyant is still the top master on the women's list at #8 with her 19:32 from the Trent Trot 5K. Montford Middle School cross country runner makes her first appearance on this years list at #20 with her 20:45 at the Shamrock Scurry 5K, good enough for the women's title at that race. Master runner Carrie Seiberlich, the women's runner-up at the Shamrock Scurry, is also new to the 2015 rankings. Her 21:00 at the March 14 race earns her the #24 spot on the women's list.
Nine 5K races on USATF certified courses so far this year, but that was just the first 73 days of 2015. With 292 days left in the year after the Shamrock Scurry 5K, there's a lot more racing ahead. There are still the heavy hitters of the spring, the Springtime 5K on 28 March 2015 and especially the Palace Saloon 5K two weeks later on 11 April 2015. Other 5K events on USATF certified courses during the rest of the year include the Nene Fest 5K on 9 May 2015, the inaugural T-PAL 5K on 30 May 2015, the Run Around The Lakes 5K on 13 June 2015, the Firecracker 5K on 4 July 2015, the Sickle Cell 5K on 12 September 2015, the Tallahassee Women's Distance Festival 5K on 19 September 2015, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K on 26 November 2015. This isn't comprehensive. For example, I expect the FSECC 5K and the Deer Run 5K to return sometime this fall, I just haven't seen them on the schedule yet. There may be other timed events on USATF certified courses as well. As things stand, though, there are plenty of opportunities ahead to run some fast 5K road times.
