Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through March 28)

Since 1977 the principal event at Gulf Winds Track Club's Springtime Road Race has been the 10K, but starting in 2008 there was also a 5K. Both events are on certified courses, so the 28 March 2015 running of the Springtime 5K was an opportunity for some athletes to get on the list of Tallahassee's top 5K road times for the year.

Adam Greenstein seized that opportunity. Winning the race in 17:31, Greenstein is now 14th on the 2015 list of male performers in the city. Nick Loffer of Juno Beach, Florida, ran 18:20 at Springtime. That put him second in the race and 23rd on the list. In winning the Springtime 10K in 32:59, Stephen Cox actually ran faster in the longer race than anyone in the 5K. That kind of speed is why he's still second on the 5K list with the 15:46 he posted at the Run For The Cookies. Remy Tamer went even faster at Run For The Cookies, 15:40, which is still Tallahassee's top 5K performance so far in 2015.

Likewise, Sheryl Rosen remains on top of the women's performance list with her 18:04 from Run For The Cookies. There were changes on the women's list, though. Swift Creek Middle School distance runner Alyson Churchill cracked 20:00 for the first time in her career at the Education For Life 5K on 21 March 2015, running 19:53. A week later Churchill ran even faster at the Springtime 5K, winning the women's title in 19:45. That boosts her up to #10 on the women's list. Megan Churchill, Alyson's sister, finished tenth overall at the Springtime 5K in 20:48, placing second in the women's standings and grabbing the 21st spot on the 2015 performance list.

Tallahassee's next opportunity to race on a certified 5K course is the 41st annual Palace Saloon 5K on 11 April 2015, possibly the best chance at a fast time this spring if not this year. More 5K events on USATF certified courses during the rest of 2015 include the FSU Autism 5K on 18 April 2015, the Refuge House SAAM 5K on 19 April 2015, the Nene Fest 5K on 9 May 2015, the inaugural T-PAL 5K on 30 May 2015, the Run Around The Lakes 5K on 13 June 2015, the Firecracker 5K on 4 July 2015, the Sickle Cell 5K on 12 September 2015, the Tallahassee Women's Distance Festival 5K on 19 September 2015, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K on 26 November 2015. That's ten races, and more may show up on the calendar before the end of year. There are still plenty of chances to run a fast time in 2015.
