If you were strolling along the Westgate Park Trail in Dothan, Alabama, on a Saturday morning and a fast runner flashed by you, it would hardly be unusual. The trail is the venue for many races--the High Noon 5K, the 'Stache Dash 5K, the Brian Dowling 5K, and the Firecracker 5K in just the first half of 2015. But if that fast runner was in the front of the race and he was wearing flip-flops, then that would be unusual enough to conclude that it was 25 July 2015 and that the event was the third annual Tasty Tiger Trot 5K Trail Race. The runner wearing footgear more suited for the beach was Maxwell Collins, 21, who won the race in 18:37. Donalsonville, Georgia, master runner Myles Gibson was right behind Collins, finishing second overall in 18:49. Gibson had been third in the 2014 Tiger Trot. John Janigian also returned from the 2014 race, improving on his previous year's sixth-place finish with a third-place 19:19. Dothan High junior Mike Houston edged Enterprise High frosh Jack Brockman for fourth, 19:54 to 19:58Houston and Brockman had a close finish, but the duel for the women's title was even closer. Cheyenne Andrew outkicked Eden Keene 23:16 to 23:17 to take the honor, placing 14th overall while Keene was 15th overall. Andrew is just a month away from starting her second year of running cross country for the Mercer University Bears. Kimberly Floyd was third in the women's standings, coming in 20th overall in 24:19. Heather Perry was the first woman master and the fourth female finisher, 28th overall in 26:10.
The Tasty Tiger Trot 5K Trail Race was a fundraiser for the Dothan High School cross country program, a cross country race supporting a cross country team. 77 athletes finished the third-year event.
