Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2016 (through April 2)

During April there are going to be several races on USATF-certified 5K courses in Tallahassee, nearly one every weekend. Therefore, there could potentially be quite a few updates to the city's 2016 performance lists. It all depends on how fast people run. Gulf Winds Track Club's Springtime 5K was the first Saturday in April, 2 April 2016, and that first race of the month produced the month's first changes in the rankings.

The men's list didn't get extensive revisions, but Springtime 5K winner Nicholas Loffer broke into the top 25, his 18:42 winning time placing him 24th in the rankings. In 2015 Loffer finished the year 54th on the men's 5K list with an 18:20 from the Springtime 5K.


The Springtime 5K women's competition featured a close race for first between Megan Churchill and Kristy Kalich. Churchill won that battle, during which the two runners pushed one another to times of 21:53 and 21:54--good for eleventh and twelfth on the latest women's list. Paige Churchill was third in the women's standings of the Springtime 5K and her 23:00 puts her 25th in the rankings, making two Churchill sisters in the top 25.

Up top, though, things are the same. Nate Kaiser is first on the men's list at 16:41, and he has been since January. Alexandra Midgett leads the women with her 18:53, a position she's held since February.


But there's still a lot of April left, and eight months of racing after that. Let's review the criteria for performances to get included in the rankings:

• The race has to be in Tallahassee (anywhere in Leon County is fine)
• The race has to be run on a USATF certified course
• The race has to have published results
• I have to see the results

That could include the FSU Autism 5K on 9 April 2016, Gulf Winds Track Club's Palace Saloon 5K on 17 April 2016, the Nene Fest 5K and the TMH For Life Challenge Spring 5K on 30 April 2015, the 34th annual Firecracker 5K on 4 July 2016, the TMH For Life Challenge Summer 5K on 23 July 2016, the Sickle Cell 5K on 10 September 2016, and Gulf Winds Track Club's Tallahassee Women's Distance Festival 5K on 17 September 2016.
