If you're from Georgia, you'll understand the glee that would be inspired in the heart of someone wearing blue and gold upon hearing that a Yellow Jacket had won the Bulldog Dash. That's exactly what happened at MacIntyre Middle School in Thomasville, Georgia on Saturday morning, 5 March 2016. Samuel Gelabert, the senior ace of the Yellow Jacket cross country team of Thomas County Central High, ran a winning 17:16 in the second annual Bulldog Dash 5K road race. Rebecca Toman of Moultrie, Georgia took the women's title, placing 11th overall in 23:50.Another Yellow Jacket senior, Conley Wilhem, was second in the 3.1-mile race with a 17:50. The 2015 Bulldog Dash winner, Daniel Oldham, settled for third this time around, running 18:48. Thomasville High Bulldog sophomore cross country runners John West and Jason Stockstill took the next two places, running 19:03 and 19:33.
Wendy Owens was runner-up for the women with a 24:19, good for thirteenth overall. Owens was also the top master runner in the 5K. The Bulldog Dash's second fastest master runner was the first male master, Bret Owens, fourteenth overall in 24:20.
Sydney Siddell (15th, 24:29) and Jamie Gammel (16th, 25:44) took third and fourth in the women's standings. The fifth and sixth women's spots went to two Thomasville High cross country runners, with frosh Claudia White (18th, 26:06) edging junior Lehana Morrell (19th, 26:07).
66 athletes finished the 2016 Bulldog Dash 5K, and another 96 completed a one-mile fun run. Proceeds of the runs went to the MacIntyre Park Middle School Principal's Fun, which assists in running programs and events at the school.
