Well over three inches of rain drenched Tallahassee on the 26 March 2016 weekend, but the soaking couldn't stop the Florida High FAN 5K on Saturday morning. Jeremy Fowler won the 3.1-mile race through Southwood, running 20:36. Stacie Elliott was the first woman in the 5K, placing third overall in 21:31.The race started south of Florida State University School on Schoolhouse Road. A crowd of youngsters charged off the starting line, scrambling for the lead as if it were a 100-meter instead of a 5000-meter race. By the time the race was over, though, Jeremy Fowler was up front, finishing more than 200 meters ahead of the next runner. Matt Jordan took second in 21:30. David Yon was the fastest master runner in the race, the third male finisher and fifth overall in 21:47.
Women's champ Stacie Elliott crossed the finish line right after Matt Jordan, with Jillian Heddaeus just 30 meters behind her. Heddaeus was the women's runner-up, fourth overall in 21:39. Monica Judd was the top woman master, the third female finisher and twelfth overall in 23:59.
103 athletes finished the inaugural Florida High FAN 5K, with another 29 completing a one-mile fun run. The Florida State University School (aka Florida High) Friends and Alumni Network (FAN) hosted the race as a fundraiser for the school's athletic programs. Chip timing of the race was provided by Gulf Winds Track Club of Tallahassee, Florida.
