Persistence pays for Gallagher and Land at the Run For Haven 10K

Persistence.


Patrick Gallagher raced the Run For Haven 10K in 2015. The Gainesville, Florida athlete finished fourth in the race that year, running 42:12. Gallagher returned to the Run For Haven in 2016 and took the runner-up spot. On Saturday morning, 11 March 2017, Gallagher went yet again to the Run For Haven. This time the Gainesville master runner won the eighth annual ten-kilometer race by more than a kilometer, running 38:46. Similarly, in the women's competition the 2016 runner-up, Melissa Land, took the women's title in the 2017 10K, running 46:39. Sometimes you just have to keep trying.


Rich Jamito placed second in the 2017 Run For Haven 10K with a 43:41. Alejandro Rodriguez edged master runner Ken Vogel for third, 45:01 to 45:08.


Andrea Craine was second in the women's standings and seventh overall in 46:56. A few steps behind Craine at 47:01, Colleen Kearney was the first woman master and third female finisher, placing ninth overall.


115 athletes finished the 10K.

The 2017 Run For Haven also included a 5K race, and Gainesville master runner Clay Clement won that shorter event, running 19:15. Massimo Pascalli was runner-up in the 5K at 20:50, and Miles Kelleher was third in 21:08.


Master runner Christina Alba of Gainesville was the women's champ in the 5K, placing fourth overall in 21:52. Mary Greco was second in the women's standings and ninth overall in 22:49. Leslie Dugger was the third woman and twelfth finisher, running 23:09.


376 athletes finished the 5K. Both the 10K and the 5K were timed by Start 2 Finish Race Management of Alachua, Florida.
