Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2017 (through March 4)

Revisiting Tallahassee's 2017 list of top road 5K performers during mid-March, we find Matt McCurdy still on top of the men's list rankings and Ani Veltcheva still leading the women. Since the last update, McCurdy added another fast performance in town, winning the Shamrock Scurry 5K in 16:38. Veltcheva hasn't raced in Tallahassee since going 17:35 at the Run For The Cookies, but she has been logging impressive times all around Florida--17:34 back home in Gainesville at the Five Points Of Live 5K on 25 February 2017; 17:35 in Palm Coast at the Superhero 5K on 4 March 2017.

The rest of the men's list was nearly as static as the top. Master runner Michael Martinez did break into the rankings, though, grabbing the 22nd spot on the list with the 19:07 he posted at the Shamrock Scurry 5K. Lane Williams joins the list at #25 with a 19:18 from that same Shamrock Scurry race.


In the women's rankings, Katie Sherron went 19:09 at the Shamrock Scurry, her best mark so far this year and good enough to move her up to third. Jillian Heddaeus ran 20:57 at Shamrock Scurry, allowing her to remain eighth in the rankings. Master runner Stephanie Liles-Weyant turned in a 21:04 at the Scurry and now holds the ninth spot on the women's list. Alyssa Terry broke onto the list with a 22:01 at the Trailblazer 5K, then a week later improved that to 21:41 at the Shamrock Scurry, putting her thirteenth on the list. Tylo Farrar is 21st in the women's rankings after running 22:17 at the Shamrock Scurry.

After March comes April, and more Tallahassee 5K races on USATF-certified courses. There's the Springtime 5K on 1 April 2017, Gulf Winds Track Club's 43rd annual Palace Saloon 5K on 15 April 2017, and fourth annual Nene Fest 5K on 29 April 2017--all three on certified courses. Beyond April there are eight more months of racing in 2017, so stay tuned!
