Isaac Chambers throws down the fastest Break Bread Bun Run ever

On Saturday morning, 4 June 2022, the Break Bread Bun Run 5K returned to the streets of Valdosta, Georgia's Wood Lake neighborhood for the first time since 2019. The race came earlier in the year than usual; from 2010 to 2019 it had been a mid-July event. Isaac Chambers also made sure that it was a faster race than usual. A rising junior at Lowndes High, Chambers won the 5K in 17:36, a new record for the Break Bread Bun Run. Bella Weyand, a distance runner at Hahira Middle School, won the women's title, placing twelfth overall in 25:33.


Chambers led a prep sweep of the first three places. The runner-up spot went to Toshiya Bass, another rising junior at Lowndes High. Bass covered the 3.1 miles in 18:27. Patrick Wallace, a rising sophomore at Valdosta High, took third in 19:44.


The top master runner in the 5K was Valdosta High cross-country coach Ryan Kelly, fourth overall in 20:05. Kelly was a past champion of the Break Bread Bun Run, having won the race in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 he had set the event record of 18:19, broken in 2015 by Matthew Baun with a 17:49. Baun's mark was still standing when Chambers stepped onto the course in 2022.


Martha Mazurkiewicz was the top woman master and second female finisher, thirteenth overall in 25:40. Jamie Brown of Valdosta placed third in the women's standings, coming in seventeenth overall in 28:57.


51 athletes finished the 2022 Break Bread Bun Run 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.
