Leonardo Canete and Keeli Holloway take the 46th annual Swamp Run

Leonardo Canete and Waycross, Georgia's annual Swamp Run have age in common. Canete was born in 1978. The Swamp Run was first contested in 1978. A stronger connection between the two, though, is that the Tallahassee master runner has won the race twice--most recently on Saturday morning, 18 March 2023, when he posted a winning time of 37:51 in the ten-kilometer cross-country race, finishing over 800 meters ahead of the next runner. Keeli Holloway took first on the women's side. A junior on the Ware County High cross-country team, Holloway placed ran 45:50 in the 10K, placing fifth overall.


Another Ware County harrier, frosh Caleb Wise, placed second to Canete with a 41:26. Brunswick Georgia master runner Wesley Shoup took third in 44:52.


Abagail Dell of Blackshear, Georgia was second in the women's standings, coming in sixth overall in 46:04--four minutes faster than her third-place showing in the women's division of the 2022 Swamp Run. Blackshear's Libby Dodd was the first woman master and third female finisher, nineteenth overall in 54:09.


66 athletes finished the 2023 Swamp Run 10K. Second Wind Race Timing timed and scored the 46th annual race. Okefenokee Track and Cycling Club hosted the event.
