Troy Dunkley goes 36:06 for his third Swamp Run 10K title

Sometimes the Okefenokee Swamp is wet. Sometimes it's dry. Sometimes parts of the Swamp are on fire. And sometimes parts of the Swamp are full of runners--specifically, the part of the Swamp near Waycross in the Georgia Lion's Camp for the BlindLion's Camp for the Blind during the annual Swamp Run. Chick-fil-A presented the 42nd annual event on Saturday morning, 23 March 2019, and Troy Dunkley won the race, covering ten kilometers of unpaved trails in 36:06. Master runner Dana Smith was the first woman in the race, placing fourteenth overall in 51:06.


It was Dunkley's third win at the trail race in the last four years. He crossed the finish line just 60 meters ahead of runner-up Justin Tracy, the winner of the 2018 Swamp Run. Tracy's time in the 2019 race was 36:20. Valdosta High cross-country coach Ryan Kelly was the first master runner in the 10K, coming in third overall in 38:44.


In a battle of two master runners, Christy Trowbridge took runner-up in the women's standings over Tanya Altman, 51:44 to 51:56. Trowbridge and Altman were sixteenth and eighteenth overall.


116 athletes finished the 2019 Swamp Run 10K, with another seven completing a 10K walk. Milestone Race Authority of Jacksonville, Florida chip-timed the race, a first in Swamp Run history. Okefenokee Track and Cycling Club hosted the event.
