Ian Bordelon posts a 15:43 at the McGuire's Saint Paddy's Day 5K

On Saturday, 9 March 2019, Saint Patrick's Day was still a week away. But in Pensacola, Florida it was close enough to the Irish saint's feast day to run the 42nd annual McGuire's Saint Patrick's Day 5K. Ian Bordelon won the 3.1-mile road race in 15:43, while Erin Padgett took the women's title in 19:57.


Ian Bordelon has long competed in the Pensacola area, having run cross-county at Booker T. Washington High and a few miles west at the University of South Alabama. He had also finished runner-up in the 2018 McGuire's 5K, but in 2019 the race was all his. Just 40 meters behind Bordelon, University of West Florida cross-country coach Caleb Carmichael finished second in 15:51. Carmichael had won the race in 2013. At 16:35, third place went to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida's Nathan Isaacs, the winner of McGuire's 2018 Hallowe'en 5K in Destin. Dewayne Riley of Milton was fourth in 16:49. Ian Worth of Niceville, Florida was the fastest master runner in the race, placing eleventh overall in 18:10.


2019 women's champ Erin Padgett hails from Loxley, which may be in Alabama, but it's almost close enough to Pensacola to be a suburb. Kelley Bahn was runner-up to Padgett in 21:04. An alumna of both the University of West Florida and Chiles High cross-country teams, Bahn had finished her fourth marathon just a week before the McGuire's race. Britton Stackhouse of Pensacola was third in the women's standings at 21:35. Pensacola's Karen Trittschuh was the first woman master and fourth female finisher, running 22:40.
