Judging by the name alone, you'd think Dublin, Georgia would have the state monopoly on Saint Patrick's Day. But by all accounts, Savannah has Georgia's best Saint Patrick's Day celebration. And Americus, Georgia has the Shamrock Jog And Jam 5K Night Race. The ninth annual edition of that race was run on Saturday evening, 16 March 2019, and Noah Metheny took first. A junior on the Terrell High cross-country team, Metheny's winning time was 19:15. Americus master runner DeAnn Reid won the women's title for the second year in a row, placing eighth overall in 23:14.Just 50 meters behind Metheny, Patrick Calcutt of Americus took the runner-up spot in the 5K with a 19:27. Calcutt was also the fastest master runner in the race. Griffin Toms, a frosh on the cross-country team at Schley County High, came in third at 21:22. Toms had finished eighteenth in the 2018 Shamrock Jog & Jam.
Maya Wynn, a sophomore on the Furlow Charter School cross-country team, was second in the women's standings and eleventh overall in 23:34. Master runner Amber DeBaise was the third female finisher and seventeenth overall in 25:07.
86 athletes finished the 2019 Shamrock Jog And Jam 5K. The race benefits the Scott Law Foundation, which provides direct financial assistance to Sumter and surrounding county residents suffering from cancer or other medical ailments.
