Butzin and Galambos hit the road to rule the streets in Moultrie

The YThey came from miles away to win the 13th annual Race of the South 10K. Daniel Butzin traveled from Valdosta, Georgia, to get to the Moultrie, Georgia, race on Saturday morning, 19 September 2015. Butzin posted a winning 39:01 for the 6.2-mile road run, finishing nearly 400 meters ahead of the next runner. Mary Galambos came from even more distant Jacksonville, Florida, and won the women's division, placing twelfth overall in 52:52.


Adel, Georgia, master runner Sean McConnell finished runner-up behind Butzin, running 40:32. Moultrie's Tyler Johnston was the first local finisher, coming in third overall in 41:00.


Another local finisher was Heather Grantham. Grantham was second in the women's standings, placing 16th overall in 54:22. Winston, Georgia, athlete Jill Walk was the third woman finisher, 17th overall in 55:21. Racquel Reed of Sylvester, Georgia, was the top woman master and fourth female finisher, 23rd overall in 66:11.


32 athletes finished the Moultrie YMCA's 2015 Race of the South 10K.

The theme of the 2015 Race of the South 5K was repeat winners. Running 18:40, Steven Johnson, Jr., of Norman Park, Georgia, won the race for the fourth time in five years, pushing his current winning streak to three years. 2014 women's champ, Beverly Hamilton of Thomasville, Georgia, also repeated, taking the top woman's spot and placing fifth overall in 22:44 to successfully defend her title.


There was a new top master runnner in the 2015 5K, however--Lorenzo Gomez of Omega, Georgia. Gomez was second overall in 19:30, while 2014's fastest master, Chad Johnson of Thomasville, placed third in 20:17.


49 athletes finished Moultrie's 2015 Race of the South 5K.

to 1996.
