Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through September 19)

Tallahassee is a town with more than twenty 5K races on certified courses, so you wouldn't expect there to be a two-month period without such a race. Nevertheless, that's exactly what happened after Capital City Kiwanis' Firecracker 5K on 4 July 2015. Things cranked up again in September, though, with the Sickle Cell 5K on 12 September 2015 and Gulf Winds Track Club's Women's Distance Festival 5K on 19 September 2015. So how did those races affect Tallahassee's lists of top 5K road times for 2015?

There were some modest changes to the men's list. Tallahassee Community College student Matt Nazareth appeared on the list for the first time after winning the Sickle Cell 5K in 17:24. He debuts at #25. Nazareth is new in Tallahassee, but we may be seeing more of him on the Tallahassee roads in the future. Zach DeVeau, on the other hand, is already fixture on the Tallahassee road-racing scene. A week after the Sickle Cell 5K, DeVeau won the men's competition at the Women's Distance Festival 5K with a 17:08. He had already been on the 2015 list at #17 with a 17:11 from the Trailblazer 5K; the faster time moves him up to #15.

On the women's side, Brittney Barnes' 20:10 win at the Sickle Cell 5K was an improvement on the 20:12 at the Trent Trot 5K that had already put her on the list, but not enough of an improvement to move her up from #17. At the Women's Distance Festival 5K, Katie Sherron put up a winning 18:53 and Alyson Churchill was runner-up in 20:12, but both were already on the list at #4 and #11 with faster times. Jillian Heddaeus hadn't been on the list, however, and her 20:41 at the race put her on the list at #24.

Meanwhile, Tyler Udland continues to lead the men's list with his 15:29 from the Palace Saloon 5K, and Lauren Poulos heads the women's list with her 17:54 in the same race. That could still change. There are more 5K races on certified courses before the end of the year, such as the Race For Readiness on 17 October 2015, another TMH For Life 5K on 24 October 2015, the Deer Run 5K on 7 November 2015, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K on 26 November 2015. Don't rule out the possibility of additions. Don't rule out the possibility of cancellations, either.
