Oates and Richards win in Westgate at the Pilgrim Chase

After finishing second in the Dothan Runners' 2015 Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Race, Rob Oates was back in Westgate Park on Saturday morning, 26 November, for the 2016 edition of the annual event. This time the Brandon, Mississippi athlete won the 3.1-mile cross-country race, posting a time of 19:19 and finishing more than half a kilometer ahead of the next runner. Ella Richards won the women's title in 22:36, placing fifth overall. Richards is a seventh-grader on the Headland High School cross-country team. 59 athletes finished the race through Dothan, Alabama's Westgate Park.


For the third year in a row, Dale Thomas of Taylor, Alabama was the fastest master runner in the Pilgrim Chase. Thomas placed second overall in 21:44. Nathan Wiesinger of Dothan, Alabama took third, running 22:10.


Helen Clare Rushton, a Mississippian transplanted to South Shields in the United Kingdom, was second in the women's standings and tenth overall in 24:59. Auburn, Alabama's Beverly Lovelady was the top woman master and third female finisher, placing fifteenth overall in 26:57.
