Tallahassee's top 10K road times in 2018

During 2018, Tallahassee, Florida had three 10K road races on USATF-certified courses--the Springtime 10K on 7 April 2018, the Saint Peter's Anglican Church 10K on 16 June 2018, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 10K on 22 November 2018. The winners of each of those races had times that ranked in the city's top ten 10K performances for the year. Poncherella Leonard's winning 35:52 at the Saint Peter's Anglican Church 10K puts him seventh on the men's list. Amy Hines won the women's division at the same race with a 40:11, earning her the sixth spot in the women's rankings. Tallahassee Turkey Trot 10K men's champ Micah Kemp threw down a 33:13, the second-best 10K in town for the year. The women's champ, Renee Cox, went 38:59, good for third on the women's list.

The very best road 10K times in Tallahassee, though, came from Gulf Winds Track Club's Springtime 10K. Chris Haynes won that race in 32:31, and no one else ran faster in Tallahassee all year. Fighting for the Springtime women's title, Katie Sherron and Ann Centner finished a few feet apart in 38:57 and 38:59. Sherron's time stands as the best on the women's list this year, and Centner's ranks second. If you look at the top 25 men during 2018, 16 of them ran their best 10K time of the year at Springtime. Likewise, 16 of the top 25 women owe their spot in the 10K rankings to their performance at Springtime.


The top performing master runners, however, didn't emerge at Springtime. Michael Rhodes was the fastest male master in the 10K on the Tallahassee roads in 2018; he ran 37:25 at the Tallahassee Turkey Trot, putting him tenth on the men's list. Elisha Boggs led the women masters with a 43:42 from the Saint Peter's Anglican Church 10K. Boggs ended the year eleventh on the women's 10K list.

Look for two of the races to be back in 2019. Gulf Winds Track Club will host the 44th annual Springtime 10K on 30 March 2019 and the 44th annual Tallahassee Turkey Trot 10K on 28 November 2019. There won't be a Saint Peter's Anglican Church race in 2019, but there will still be at least three 10K road races in Tallahassee during the year, because of the addition of the Trent Trot 10K. After nine years of hosting a 5K race, the tenth annual Trent Trot will also include a 10K on a USATF-certified course. Scheduled for Saturday morning, 26 January 2019, the new race will Tallahassee's first 10K of the year.

For each of those years, performances meeting these criteria were considered:

• The race has to be in Tallahassee (anywhere in Leon County is fine)
• The race has to be run on a USATF certified course
• The race has to have published results
• I have to see the results
