Leon County Schools' 2021 middle school cross country schedule

Seven meets. Count 'em! Seven.


That's what Leon County Schools has scheduled for its midddle school cross-country runners as the 2021 season opens in Tallahassee, Florida. It's the greatest number of meets ever on the League schedule, as if to make up for the COVID-shortened five-meet season in 2020.

There are some things to miss about that 2020 season. For the first time, the middle school harriers raced on the Alford Greenway, in Killearn Estates, and at the Florida State University SportsPlex. The athletes won't be returning to Alford or Killearn in 2021, but LCS scheduled a meet for the SportPlex on Friday, October 1. Some old venues that were absent from the 2020 schedule are back on the slate in 2021. A season opener on the Apalachee Regional Park Championship Cross-Country Course is scheduled for Thursday, 26 August 2021. The LCS harriers will be back at Fort Braden for the Fort Braden Run on Thursday, 2 September 2021. The Gretchen Everhart Invitational, perhaps the oldest middle school meet in Florida, returns to Gretchen Everhart School after a one-year hiatus on Wednesday morning, 15 September 2021.


Three meets from 2020 made the 2021 schedule, the Mustang Invitational at Montford, the Falcon Invitational, and the LCS League Championship Meet. The Mustang Invitational takes place at Montford Middle School on Tuesday, 7 September 2021. Fairview Middle School is still looking a venues for the Falcon Invitational on Thursday, 23 September 2021. The League Championship Meet returns to Apalachee Regional Park on Thursday, 7 October 2021, the twelfth year in a row that ARPXC has hosted the Championship.


Outside of the Leon County Schools League, Holy Comforter Episcopal School will host two meets on their home course--the Crusader Cross-Country Classic on Thursday, 30 September 2021, and the Tallahassee Open on Tuesday, 12 October 2021. Both of Holy Comforter's meets also include a one-mile race for elementary school athletes. Several other meets in the Tallahassee area have middle school races scheduled--the FSUS Invitational on Saturday, 21 August 2021; the Dueling Summits Meet on Saturday, 28 August 2021; the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Thomasville on Thursday, 2 September 2021; the Big Bend Invitational on Saturday, 4 September 2021; The Bear Invitational in Crawfordville on Saturday, 25 September 2021; the Bearcat Invitational in Bainbridge on Saturday, 9 October 2021; and the FSU Invitational on Friday, 15 October 2021. Not more racing than you could do, but certainly more than you should do.
