Chambers led a prep sweep of the first three places. The runner-up spot went to Toshiya Bass, another rising junior at Lowndes High. Bass covered the 3.1 miles in 18:27. Patrick Wallace, a rising sophomore at Valdosta High, took third in 19:44.
The top master runner in the 5K was Valdosta High cross-country coach Ryan Kelly, fourth overall in 20:05. Kelly was a past champion of the Break Bread Bun Run, having won the race in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 he had set the event record of 18:19, broken in 2015 by Matthew Baun with a 17:49. Baun's mark was still standing when Chambers stepped onto the course in 2022.
Martha Mazurkiewicz was the top woman master and second female finisher, thirteenth overall in 25:40. Jamie Brown of Valdosta placed third in the women's standings, coming in seventeenth overall in 28:57.
51 athletes finished the 2022 Break Bread Bun Run 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.
