Nick Rosatti and Laura Solomon were top of the podium at the Daylily 5K

Daylily 5KAdel, Georgia hosts an annual Daylily Festival. It's a paradox of geography that the annual Daylily 5K has, more than a few times, been run in nearby Sparks, Georgia. One of those times was Saturday morning, 10 May 2025, when Nick Rosatti won the fifteenth annual Daylily 5K, going 17:50 on the streets of Sparks. Nashville, Georgia master runner Laura Solomon was the first woman in the race, running 23:58 for sixteenth overall.


You might have picked Rosatti as the favorite in the 2025 race. After all, he had won the Daylily 5K in 2021 with a 17:13--the fastest winning time ever posted at the event. But Rosatti shared the starting line with Adel's own Canaan Ponce, who owned the 2022 and 2023 Daylily titles. At the finish line, Ponce was only twenty meters behind the winner, taking second in 17:54. Another Adel athlete, Gary Rowan, was third in 19:01. Jason Shehand of Suwannee, Georgia was the first master runner in the 5K, comming in fourth in 19:27.


The 2024 women's winner, Julie Grace Taylor of Adel, placed second in the women's division, coming in eighteenth overall in 25:01. Adel master runner Shonna O'Quinn, a two-time women's champ of the Daylily 5K, was the first woman master and third female finisher, 23rd overall in 27:19.


62 athletes finished the 2025 Daylily City 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the race and provided finish line services.

Nick Rosatti and Laura Solomon burned the competition at the Blazin' Love 5K

Blazin' Love 5KClose finishes and international competition aren't staples of road racing in Valdosta, Georgia. Nevertheless, you could see both on Saturday morning, 8 February 2025, at the ninth annual Blazin' Love 5K, where Valdosta's Nick Rosatti edged Oscar Lopez Pech of Mexico City for the win, 17:49 to 17:51. Nashville, Georgia master runner Laura Solomon was the first woman in the race, placing 24th overall in 24:31.


Behind the duelling Rosatti and Lopez Pech, Gary Rowan of Adel, Georgia took third with an 18:13. Lake Park, Georgia's Ryan Kelly was the first master runner in the race, coming in seventh overall in 19:59.


At 25:22, Tia O'Leary of Adel was the women's runner-up and 25th overall. Valdosta athlete Sarah Hamblin took third in the women's standings, going 25:39 for 26th overall.


79 athletes finished the 2025 Blazin' Love 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services. Proceeds of the race benefit the Valdosta State University Blazer cross-country teams.

Nick Rosatti and Greta Mikell finish first in the Phi Mu 5K

Ten days after winning the Lowndes High Turkey Trot 5K by inches, Nick Rosatti won another Valdosta, Georgia road race by nearly 600 meters. Rosatti, a member of the Valdosta State University Blazer cross-country squad, ran 17:57 to win the inaugural Phi Mu 5K on Sunday morning, 8 December 2019. Florida State University graduate student Greta Mikell was the first woman in the 3.1-mile race, placing fifth overall in 23:57.


Chad Northcutt of Quitman, Georgia took the runner-up spot with a 20:24. Valdosta's William Thornton placed third in 21:38.


Hannah Gandy of Valdosta ran 30:04 to finish second in the women's standings and sixth overall in 30:04. Sheri Swader of Lake Park, Georgia was the top master runner in the race, placing seventh in the women's standings and seventh overall in 30:28.


39 athletes finished the 2019 Phi Mu 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.

Nick Rosatti and Pollyanna Bass collect Turkey Day wins in Valdosta

Wild TurkeysOn the streets of Valdosta, Georgia, Nick Rosatti outkicked Craig Swain 17:20.0 to 17:20.4 to win Valdosta's eleventh annual Turkey Trot 5K. Pavo, Georgia master runner Pollyanna Bass was the first woman in the Thursday morning, 28 November 2019, race, placing fourteenth overall in 22:02.


Rosatti, a Hahira, Georgia native, races for the Valdosta State University Blazer men's cross-country team. Swain competes for the Mountain View High cross-country team in Stafford, Virginia. Jadon Long finished third behind Rosatti and Swain in 18:24. Long is an alumnus of the Lowndes High cross-country team, the hosts of the Turkey Trot. Mike Mason of Valdosta was the fastest master runner in the 5K, placing eleventh overall in 20:56.


Behind Pollyanna Bass, Valdosta's Tracie Ferris edged Tracey Cole of Pinetta, Florida for the runner-up spot in the women's standing, 22:20.7 to 22:21.1. Ferris and Cole were sixteenth and seventeenth overall. Jordan Green, a junior on the Valwood High cross-country team, was the fourth female finisher and eighteenth overall in 22:36.


162 athletes finished Lowndes High Cross-Country's 2019 Turkey Trot 5K.

Rosatti repeats and Burnette wins in Adel's Glow Run

blue and green glow sticksOn 5 March 2016 Dan Butzin was in Adel, Georgia tallying a win in the Adel Kiwanis 5K. Butzin was back in Adel six days later on Friday evening, 11 March 2016, looking for another first-place finish, this time in the second annual Glow For Alpha Rho 5K. Unfortunately for Butzin, the race's defending champion was there, Nick Rosatti of Hahira, Georgia. Running 18:34, Rosatti got his second straight Glow 5K title, leaving Butzin over 100 meters behind. Moultrie, Georgia master runner Judi Burnette was the first woman in the race, placing twelfth overall in 26:32. 71 athletes finished the 3.1-mile race.


Dan Butzin was the overall runner-up in 19:02. Cody Pezent, a frosh on the Cook High cross country team, took third in 20:00. Pezent had finished second in 2016's inaugural Glow For Alpha Rho 5K. Valdosta, Georgia athlete Jim Dawkins was the top master, placing fifth overall in 23:35.


The 2015 Glow Run women's champ, Adel's Angela Pezent, was second in the women's standings of the 2016 race, placing thirteenth overall in 26:47. Shannon Emanuel of Ray City, Georgia was the third female finisher, fifteenth overall in 27:34.


Hosted by the Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, proceeds of the 2016 Glow For Alpha Rho 5K benefit a scholarship fund for a 2016 graduate of Cook High School in Adel. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia provided timing and finish line services.

Rosatti and Green soar to victory in Hahira

Bald EagleHahira, Georgia, is mentioned in songs recorded by Ray Stevens. If you want to find the actual town of Hahira, though, your best bet is to take Interstate 75 to Exit 29 then head east. And you'll want to find Hahira if you want to run the Soaring Eagle 5K.


Hahira's own Nick Rosatti won the fifth annual Soaring Eagle 5K on Saturday morning, 16 January 2016. After finishing fifth in the race in 2014 and third in 2015, Rosatti ran 19:44 to finish first in 2016. Cody Pezent, a frosh runner on the Cook High cross country team, was second in 20:13. Rick Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta, Georgia, took the top master spot in the race, placing third overall in 20:31.


Valdosta master runner Debbie Green captured the women's crown at the 2016 Soaring Eagle 5K; Green finished sixth overall in 22:42. Another Valdosta master runner, Martha Mazurkiewicz, was runner-up in the women's standings, coming in eleventh overall in 24:06. Brandy Van Jura of Hahira was the third female finisher, twelfth overall in 24:59.


83 athletes finished the 3.1-mile race. Finish line and timing services were provided by A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia.

A glowing performance for Rosatti and Pezent in Adel

blue and green glow sticksIt's not that you don't expect to see prep athletes racing on a Friday evening in the spring, but you do expect to see them competing on the track. Nevertheless, Cook High junior Nick Rosatti was racing on the streets of Adel, Georgia, on Friday evening, 27 March 2015, where he won the inaugural Glow For Alpha Rho 5K. Rosatti finished the first-year race nearly half a kilometer ahead of the next athlete, posting 18:58 for the 3.1-mile run. Cook Middle School cross-country runner Cody Pezent, 14, was also absent from the track that evening, taking second in 20:47. Norman Park, Georgia, schoolboy Case Gregory took third in 22:29.


Adel's Angela Pezent was the first woman in the race as well as the fastest master runner, placing eighth overall in 26:45. The top male master runner in the race was Brad Holt of Adel; Holt was ninth overall in 27:31.


87 athletes finished the Glow For Alpha Row 5K, with another 27 completing an 800-meter fun run. The race was hosted by the Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. Proceeds went to a scholarship fund for a 2015 graduate of Cook High School in Adel. Timing and finish line services were provided by A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia.

Harriers Rosatti and Smoot win Hahira's Honeybee 5K

Hahira Honeybee FestivalHahira, Georgia, is a source of historical mysteries. The first is the source of its name. Brief research will turn up three or more stories, equally preposterous, for why a town on the north side of Lowndes County should be called "Hahira." The year of Hahira's first Honeybee Festival 5K is also a mystery, as well as the winner of that race. But whatever year the race was added, it is known that the Hahira Honeybee Festival started in 1982, and has continued annually on the first weekend of October.


It's also know that on Saturday morning, 4 October 2014, Cook High junior-year cross-country runner Nick Rosatti ran 19:26 to win the latest edition of the Hahira, Georgia, Honeybee 5K. University of Tampa cross-country runner Mary Alice Smoot took the women's title, finishing second overall in 19:51. Smoot also won the race in 2011 as a Valwood School sophomore. Valdosta athlete Steve Plymale was the fastest master runner in the race, placing eight overall in 20:59. Debbie Green of Valdosta was the top woman master, coming in 14th overall in 22:17.


Rosatti and Smoot weren't the only cross country runners on the street of Hahira that morning. Smoot was joined by fellow University of Tampa Spartans Aimee Epps (3rd, 20:11), Brianna Jackson (6th, 20:53), and Jane Ojasu (7th, 20:59). On the male side, Cook Middle School harrier Cody Pezent was ninth overall in 21:20, and Cook High sophomore Fabian Hesse was twelfth overall in 22:09.

Rosatti and Rogers race well in Adel

Nick Rosatti is on the tennis team at Cook High School in Adel, Georgia. Rosatti was at the school on Saturday morning, 1 March 2014, but he wasn't there to hit a few balls around the court. He was there to race in the Adel Kiwanis Club's annual 5K, as were 48 other athletes. Rosatti was the fastest of the crew, though, winning the 3.1-mile race through the streets of Adel in 18:59. Adel runner Jonathan McDaniel finished runner-up in 19:59. Cook Middle School cross-country runner Cody Pezent took third in 20:32. Adel's Samuel Goberdhan was fourth in 20:53.


In a close race for the women's title, ten-year-old Mackenzie Rogers edged out Valdosta master runner Alice Smoot for fifth, 23:37 to 23:38. Cook High cross-country runner Brittany Mixon took third in the women's standings, finishing 9th overall in 24:04.


Steven Schramm of Adel, Georgia, was the first male master in the race, placing 8th overall in 24:00.
