Leon County Schools' 2022 middle school cross country schedule

With apologies to Andy Williams, "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" is actually cross-country season. In Tallahassee, Florida Leon County Schools has a good one planned for the middle school harriers in 2022, with seven meets on the schedule. Two of those are on Leon County's Apalachee Regional Park Championship Cross-Country Course. But you can see that for yourself.

The 2022 schedule is much like the 2021 schedule. Once again, the opening meet is at Apalachee Regional Park--but last year ARPXC was the future site of the 2021 NCAA National Championships, while this year it is the future site of the 2026 World Athletics Cross-Country Championship Meet. After that 24 August 2022 opener, the harriers return to Fort Braden on 31 August 2022. The Mustang Invitational at Montford was on a Tuesday in 2021, in 2022 it's on Tuesday, 6 September 2022. Like 2021, the Everhart Invitational at Gretcchen Everhart School is the only morning meet on the slate; it's on Wednesday morning, 14 September 2022. The Falcon Invitational saw the first cross-country races ever held at the North Florida Fairgrounds in 2021, Fairview will host there again on 22 September 2022. In another first, the Mabry Invitational at the FSU Rec SportPlex was the first middle school night meet in Tallahassee; the harriers will run under the lights there again on Friday evening, 30 September 2022. On Wednesday, 5 October 2022, the racing returns to Apalachee Regional Park for the League Championship meet, the thirteenth year in a row that the LCS title has been decided at ARPXC.


2022 will also be the second year in a row that there will be seven meets on the schedule. There have never been more. This isn't the Bad Old Days when there were four Leon County Schools cross-country meets and few other opportunities for middle school athletes to race.
